NHRC Chapter News Update Sept 2019

Below is an update from Debbie Diaz, our Professional Development Director and the plans that she and her committee have planned for the remainder of 2019.

WORK! WORK! WORK!

It’s that time of year! Fall semester has started. Hoping everyone had a wonderful labor day weekend. The Professional Development committee has some important information to share with all our members. We’ll be kicking off the year with college visits!

Era Gjika is a member of the Communication and Professional Development committees with NHRC board as a student member.  She is a senior at Elmhurst College. She will serve as President of HR club at Elmhurst College.  Era is excited for all the opportunities available for students as well as the networking that comes from mentors and members of NHRC. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with my family, and cooking. Through her experiences working closely with the NHRC, she has met some amazing and inspiring individuals.

Karissa Blodgett will serve as President of SHRM HR Group at Northern Illinois University.  She is a junior management major with a focus on Human Resources.  She is also minoring in psychology.  A few of her hobbies include watching movies, getting outside to ride her bike and enjoying time with her friends.

Fall HR Club meetings have been scheduled.  We will present at Northern Illinois University on October 15 at 3:30 p.m. and Elmhurst College on October 17 at 11:00 a.m. We’ll  share the NHRC mentor program and set up HR Stations to share HR topics with students. We are encouraging HR professionals to sign up to be a part of the mentor program. HR professionals may find the Mentor application at mynhrc.org, About Us, NHRC Student Mentor Program, Mentor Application.  Also, if you are available to attend one or both of the HR Club meetings, please send an email to Debbie Diaz, [email protected] to participate in the HR Station activity to share your HR knowledge with students.

In addition, the students will be invited to attend the Young Professional Meeting in November so we may continue to develop our HR community.

Stay tuned for a Mentor Mixer in 2020 to bring all the mentors/mentee matchers together to share their experiences.

Please send/tag any internship stories/photos on our Instagram account @northwesthrcouncil.

We would like to send Callie Zipple, SHRM Field Services Director a message that we are thinking of her, and wishing Callie the best.

We look forward to learning and working closely with you!
