From the President...
|
Greetings!
As fall began to show its season changes, the NHRC Board held a Strategic Planning Meeting to recognize the changes required to meet the needs of our members. The meeting identified fresh ideas, challenges, and an excitement for the coming year.
In our first undertaking, we developed our new mission statement:
Our Mission is to Provide Resources and Opportunities That Engage, Develop and Inspire Human Resource Professionals
We reviewed our current council conditions to ensure that the service NHRC provides fits with our new mission statement and meets our members' needs. We celebrated what was working and identified services that lacked member participation. Then the brainstorming began to create committee initiatives to support popular services and address any obstacles. Watch for changes as we implement our initiatives!
We also recognize that social media is not going away and agreed to expand our technology and social media knowledge. Would you like to be a part of this exciting initiative? Do you have an interest or expertise in technology or social media? We want to hear from you! Did you know that since 2005, our monthly General Meeting price has remained the same while the value of attending our meetings has increased? We improved the quality of our speakers and our meeting programs. We provide a 3-course dinner meal or full hot breakfast buffet, networking opportunities and expanded HRCI credits to 1.25 credits per meeting – all while keeping the same meeting price!
These are some of the changes taking place within NHRC to help engage, develop and inspire you. Stay tuned for more to come…
I look forward to seeing you at our meetings!
Warm regards,

Chapter Updates
Certification...If you were unable to join us in the September meeting, some of our meetings will now have the potential to be worth 1.25 credits.
Are you thinking about obtaining your certification (PHR, SHPR, or GPHR)? Visit the HR Certification Institute website for more information. As HRCI states “When you become certified, whether it was last month, last year or three or more years ago – you demonstrated your support of the HR profession, as well as your personal commitment to excellence in the field”.
Anyone interested in finding a study partner on your journey to becoming certified or certified to another designation? Contact Denise Wydra, and we can put you in touch with other individuals who are on the same journey.
Communications...As we kick off the new fiscal year, our communications team is happy to announce almost 200 LinkedIn Group members. This year we are excited to leverage our social media efforts even more to keep you up to date with what is new at NHRC and our HR community. Are you a LinkedIn expert? Do you blog with the best or are you a Master of the Twitter Tweet? We need your help! We are currently looking for volunteers to assist on the Communications Committee and support these efforts. The time commitment to these projects can be as much or as little as your schedule permits, but any insight, best practices and feedback are welcomed. Please reach out to Corrin Capeles if you are interested and stay tuned for additional ways to stay connected to NHRC!
Membership...The membership committee wants to remind you that you earn a free general meeting registration, a $40.00 value, for every new member you refer to the NHRC. Your referral will need to list you on the NHRC application so we can give you the credit you deserve.
NHRC FORUM...Planning for the NHRC Forum on May 3, 2012 will begin soon. Speakers can submit their information through our ‘Calling All Speakers’ link on our website at www.mynhrc.org. Contact the Council Office if you are interested in participating on the Planning Committee or if you have any recommendations for our next Forum meeting.
Programs...Our 2011-2012 Calendar is shaping into a very exciting and informative year. We have a series of General Meetings and Round Tables already planned.
October 25: Employee Relations Roundtable 8:00 am - 9:30 am: Best Practices on Handling Uncomfortable Employee Issues. Handling these issues, however unpleasant, is often unavoidable in the HR profession. None of us looks forward to these painfully awkward and uncomfortable scenarios, some of which include terminations. However, as HR Professionals we know that many of these issues may have legal ramifications or, if left unattended, may affect the morale and productivity of the workforce. Whether you’re looking for suggestions or would like to share your own best practices, please join us for a topic that should generate a stimulating discussion.
November 10: General Meeting 11:15 am - 1:30 pm: David Ritter will speak about the Surviving & Thriving in a Social Media World. David Ritter is Partner and Chair of Labor & Employment Practice Group, at Neal, Eisenberg & Gerber LLP.
Vendor Relations...Our new council year brings new opportunities! NHRC values our vendor members and other business partners who contribute to the success of our chapter. We are pleased to announce the addition of a Vendor Relations Committee to build and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with vendors in our community. We are seeking committee members interested in establishing best practices and developing positive, productive relationships. Interested? Contact us today!
