 Letter from the President...
|
Greetings!
I hope you are enjoying your summer. As the weather heats up, July begins a new fiscal year for NHRC. While we have taken a break from our monthly General Meetings for July and August, the NHRC Board of Directors and their committees are “behind the scenes” preparing our meeting schedules and programs for our upcoming year. We look forward to an exciting year ahead! Mark your calendars for our first General Meeting, Thursday, September 15. We will send out more information once it becomes available. Meeting sponsorship and advertising opportunities are also available! Find a listing of these options at www.mynhrc.org under the ‘Advertising’ tab. In the next few months, the Board will be attending a Strategic Planning meeting. This meeting is designed to assess our current council condition, determine where we should to be in order to meet our membership needs, and identify what steps are needed to achieve these goals. As I prepare for our upcoming Strategic Planning Meeting, I invite you to share your thoughts and ideas about where you envision NHRC to be in the next few years. The Board is available to listen to your feedback and will be encouraged to share your comments during the Strategic Planning Meeting. The Board contact information can be found on our website: www.mynhrc.org under the ‘About Us’ tab or you may e-mail the Council office. As our Directors implement these initiatives, your assistance and contributions will be vital to us accomplishing these goals.
I look forward to seeing you at our meetings!
Warm regards, Sue Riffer, PHR |

Council Updates
|
Communications...As we wrap-up the Council’s fiscal year, our communications team is happy to celebrate a few successes with you. We kicked off the year with a new rendition of our newsletter, NHRC News. Designed with your busy schedule in mind, this quarterly newsletter provides quick updates and timely reminders as to what is happening within NHRC. We welcome your feedback as we prepare for a new season. In addition, we stepped up our efforts to stay connected via LinkedIn. We now have 158 LinkedIn Group members and that number is growing weekly! Stay tuned for additional ways to stay connected to NHRC!
Community Relations...Thank you to everyone who contributed or donated to one of the Community Relations Committee's "Drives" for a Better Community! We successfully held a Toy Drive for Toys for Tots, a Food Drive for the Northern Illinois Food Bank and a Clothing Drive for W.I.N.G.S (Women in Need Growing Stronger). All of your efforts were greatly appreciated this past council year. We look forward to planning even more ways that the NHRC can impact our community next year!
Programs...The 2010-2011 Program Year has concluded and programs will resume in the fall. We had a very busy program year – covering the topics of Insurance Renewals, The Legal side of Social Networks, Retention Strategies, What the CEO wants HR to know, Coaching Executives, Workplace Bullying, Managing a Remote Workforce, and Work-Life Balance. There were also very stimulating Employee Relations discussions on best practices on Employment Documentation, Recruiting with Social Media, FMLA best practices, and Writing Good job ads.
Thanks to all who helped programs be a success, especially the other members of the Program Committee: Kristen Miljan, Christy Suerth, and Anna Palucha.
If you have any suggestions for program topics, please email Renee Mullaney with your ideas. We are always looking for topics that are of interest to our members.
Scholarship...The NHRC Scholarship committee awarded the latest scholarship to Michael Julian Langer, a graduate of Willowbrook High School. His parents are Marek and Danuta Langer. Marek is an employee of Hunter Automated Machinery Corporation in Schaumburg.
NHRC member companies that donated towards the scholarship program this year were:
ADP Employer Services Arlington Resources, Inc. NEC Display Solutions of America, Inc.
We wish to thanks these companies for their generosity and support of our scholarship program!
Surveys... NHRC Retirement Benefits Survey coming in July...The survey, by participants, has been called, "Simple to complete", "Quick survey, easy to answer", "Survey format and ease of replying was very good", and "Good survey". Members of the NHRC should expect to receive the Retirement Benefits Survey by e-mail members in July. Topics included in the survey are retiree health and dental benefits, pension plans, 401K and 403B plans, Safe Harbor plans, investment choices and fund management. As the cost of benefits become a greater concern for all employers having the most recent data on the trends of retirement benefits will add to your storehouse of knowledge. Even for those employers who have small benefit packages the information will provide them the details of what other employers are providing. This data is especially valuable when you are recruiting for talent in the northwest suburbs and during the interview have the ability to understand and explain the current state of benefits to candidates. Look for the survey in July! Please forward any questions to the Council Office.
